Early Life and Career
Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin was born on October 7, 1952, in Leningrad, USSR (now Saint Petersburg, Russia). He graduated from Leningrad State University with a law degree in 1975 and joined the KGB, the Soviet Union's intelligence agency.
Rise to Power
After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Putin entered politics. He was appointed Prime Minister of Russia in 1999 and became President in 2000. He has since been re-elected four times, serving as President until 2008 and again from 2012 to the present.
