Tropical Storm Alberto Forms in Gulf of Mexico
First Named Storm of Atlantic Hurricane Season Brings Heavy Rains
Alberto Expected to Impact Northeast Mexico, South Texas
Tropical Storm Alberto, the first named storm of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, has formed over the western Gulf of Mexico, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).
As of 5 pm EDT Wednesday, Alberto's center was located approximately 305 miles south-southeast of Brownsville, Texas. The storm was moving west at 6 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.
Alberto is expected to bring heavy rains, coastal flooding, and gusty winds to northeast Mexico and South Texas. The NHC forecasts that the storm will weaken to a tropical depression by Friday morning.
